BTS ARMY Flips Over 'Map of the Soul: 7' Announcement: 'MY BRAIN'

ARMYS worldwide, rejoice, because BTS’s long-awaited comeback is finally here (well, almost).

On January 7, BTS’s parent company, Big Hit Entertainment, announced the septet would be releasing their brand new album, titled Map of the Soul: 7, on February 21, with pre-orders starting this Thursday, January 9.

Immediately following the announcement, multiple hashtags related to the new LP began trending worldwide on Twitter, including #7isComing and #BTSisComing. "The hype is real," one fan captioned screenshots of the announcement's domination across the social platform, while another wrote, "They literally announced that they're dropping an album, no details... just the name and date.. nothing else and there is already 5 trends. The world is not ready for this."

Other members of the A.R.M.Y. quickly scrambled to look for Easter eggs and hints about the album's content in past videos of the K-pop idols. In fact, many pointed to V's recent revelation during a video interview that he began working out seven months ago -- as well as Jimin's startled reaction upon hearing the number -- as evidence that the clues to the album title were in front of them all along.

The company announced the news via Weverse, writing, “BTS MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 will be released on Friday, February 21. Pre-orders will begin on Thursday, January 9. Additional details about the new release will be available on BTS Weverse and the Fan Cafe. We look forward to continued interest and support from all of our ARMY.”

While no more details have been given as of now, the new name certainly caught fans (who had long been speculating the name for the group's new project would be Map of the Soul: Shadow or Map of the Soul: Ego) by surprise. “SO WE’VE BEEN ARGUING IF THE COMEBACK WILL BE ‘SHADOW’ OR ‘EGO’ BUT BIGHIT FINALLY ANNOUNCED AND IT’S ACTUALLY ‘MAP OF THE SOUL: 7’ OH WOW OH WOW,” an ARMY commented.

Regardless of fan expectations, the significance of the number for the group is clear-cut. Not only does it relate to the number of members (OT7 forever), but it also coincides with the anniversary of the group’s genesis, as BTS will be celebrating its seventh birthday this June. But, given the number’s overall symbolism and the fact that this is BTS after all, we can surely expect some even deeper meanings to emerge in the coming weeks.

Map of the Soul: 7 is slated for release on Feb. 21 via Big Hit Entertainment/Columbia Records, and follows 2019's Map of the Soul: Persona.

A follow-up to last year’s Map of the Soul: Persona, Map of the Soul: 7 will mark the very start of what will surely be the group’s biggest year yet — and we can’t wait
